Diagnostic ultrasound is the use of high frequency sound waves to visualize structures within the body. A small device called a transducer is used to direct sound waves into the body; these waves are reflected in the structures. The returning sound waves (echoes) are then returned to the same transducer and to connected electronic equipment which changes the echoes into an image of internal structures. If the object of study is the blood flow, along with the image, there is an audible sound..The radiology is one of the pillars to imaging.
Apart from radiology, our center has ultrasound rigid and flexible endoscopy. We have the ability to perform advanced diagnostic tests (MRI, CT) with private centers.
Diagnostic ultrasound has been used in human and veterinary medicine since the mid-80s. The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (American Institute of Ultrasound applied to medicine) issued the following statement applied in clinical safety ultrasound: "There is no knowledge of any biological side effects on patients or caused by exposure of instruments operated to normal intensities of current diagnostic. Although the possibility exists that in the future one can identify these biological effects, currently available data, indicate that the benefits to patients with prudent use of diagnostic ultrasound outweigh the risks.
Despite these precautions, ultrasound equipment manufacturers are constantly working to find new ways to reduce ultrasonic exposure without compromising diagnostic quality.
Besides pregnancy diagnostics, ultrasound is used to produce images of the gallbladder, liver, kidney, pancreas, uterus, ovary, prostate, testicles and adrenals. Ultrasound can also provide visual and acoustic information of blood flow within
arteries and veins in the abdomen, as well as the various valves and chambers of the heart. They are becoming increasingly important in surgery as a visual aid to the surgeon. Ultrasound is a diagnostic tool that is experiencing faster growth. Clinic Specialists worldwide are constantly finding new applications for ultrasound systems.
The procedure itself is painless, but could cause minor discomfort to the animal due to pressure or angling in an unusual direction to get the best picture possible.To provided better contact for the transducer, a jelly substance is applied on the surface of shaved skin,it is possible that the jelly is cool, but not at all painful.
